All Projects

Richardson’s Marina sits on the southern fringe of Stalham, at the northern edge of the Broads National Park. The scheme, unanimously approved by the Broads Authority’s Planning Committee, marks a significant transformation of the site, including a new Visitor Centre, an extension to the existing workshop, improved car parking and landscaping, the demolition of outdated workshop buildings, and the excavation of the marina basin to create additional and enhanced moorings.

A Vision for a Flagship Broads Destination

The redevelopment establishes a long-term vision for a flagship destination that celebrates the unique landscape and heritage of the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads. The project is designed to deliver an immersive, educational and welcoming experience, aligning with Richardson’s commitment to sustainable tourism and high-quality design. By increasing mooring capacity and introducing new visitor facilities, the scheme revitalises the marina as a key hub for Broads tourism, supporting both boating holidays and day trips while offering engaging opportunities for learning, discovery and play.

The Visitor Centre

The new Reception and Visitor Centre adopts a contemporary architectural language inspired by traditional waterside and boatyard forms. Its two-storey structure and simple boathouse-influenced pitched roof create a distinctive landmark that remains modest and respectful in views from the surrounding landscape. Internally, the building provides a flexible learning and interpretation space, an indoor play area, and a generous café offering approximately 96 indoor covers with a further 92 external covers. A multipurpose Garden Room adds further versatility, accommodating meetings, events and exhibitions throughout the year. Together, these spaces offer a year-round destination for families, school groups and visitors of all ages.

Operational Facilities

The building also incorporates two dedicated wings that serve the operational needs of the adjacent quays. These spaces provide quay-specific receptions and support facilities for engineers, boat builders and cleaning and storage teams working across Kingfisher Quay and Heron Quay. Additional toilet and shower facilities with external access further enhance the experience for marina users, day boat hire customers and those taking part in a range of waterside activities. This integrated approach strengthens the working character of the marina and ensures that the site functions effectively as both a visitor attraction and a busy operational boatyard.
