Project Description

Marine Parade Dwellings, Gorleston

Situated along the seafront at Marine Parade, this project replaces an outdated single dwelling with two carefully considered contemporary homes, revitalising a prominent coastal plot.

The design introduces two detached homes arranged over two and a half storeys, reflecting the established scale and rhythm of neighbouring properties. Pitched roof forms respond to the surrounding architecture, while subtle variations in massing and elevation ensure each dwelling has its own identity.

A refined material palette of off-white render, brickwork and grey roof tiles offers a clean and contemporary appearance, complementing the diverse architectural language of Marine Parade.

Integration and Character

The replacement of a single dwelling with two new homes has been designed to ensure the development integrates seamlessly into the street scene. Spacing between buildings, alignment with neighbouring properties, and a considered roofscape all reflect the established character of the area.

While unified in approach, each dwelling features subtle differences in layout and external expression, creating individuality within a coherent composition.

Designed Around Light and Views

Maximising the site’s coastal setting was central to the design approach. The primary living spaces are positioned at first floor, with generous glazing and access to generous balconies, allowing uninterrupted views of the sea and strong connections between interior and exterior spaces.

Enhancing the Seafront Setting

This project demonstrates how thoughtful design can unlock the potential of a site, replacing an ageing property with architecture that is both contemporary and contextually responsive. The result is a pair of distinctive coastal homes that enhance the streetscape and make full use of their exceptional seaside location.
