Project Description

Cromer Tennis & Racket Club Padel Courts

Designed to expand the club’s sporting offer and support its long-term future, this project introduces two new covered padel courts at Cromer Tennis & Racket Club. Working closely with the client, we developed a scheme that brings one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports to North Norfolk while responding carefully to the site’s residential setting and long-established sporting heritage.

Positioned within an underused area of the site to the south of the squash courts, the new courts have been arranged to avoid any loss of existing grass tennis courts and to integrate naturally within the wider club layout. Existing buildings and boundary planting help screen the development, reducing visual impact and maintaining the character of the site.

A key feature of the project is the bespoke double barrel curved roof canopy, designed to support year-round play by providing protection from rain, wind and excessive sun. The lightweight steel structure is paired with a tension fabric roof and high-level mesh sides, creating a durable and elegant enclosure that balances performance, openness and visual quality.

The courts themselves use panoramic glazed enclosures with powder-coated steel framing and specialist artificial grass surfaces, delivering a high-quality playing experience while reflecting the contemporary identity of the sport. Integrated LED lighting ensures the facilities can be used throughout the day and into the evening.

Beyond the architecture, the project supports the club’s long-term future by broadening its sporting offer, attracting new members and creating an inclusive recreational destination for the wider community. The result is a carefully considered addition that combines modern sports design with sensitivity to place.
